Doctoral education
Malmö Theatre Academy has a doctoral education programme in performing arts. Its emphasis is on artistic work that is developed through reflection, documentation, in-depth study of the student's own field as well as links to other fields of knowledge. The doctoral training takes place in a peer community together with postdoctoral and senior researchers.
The studies aim to give the student the ability to independently and reflectively plan, carry out and document an investigative work. A well-defined research question and adequate methods form the basis for a significant contribution to the development of knowledge in the performing arts field. The courses and seminars are programmed to serve the needs of the doctoral projects conducted. One of our doctoral students currently performs her studies as part of Lund University Agenda 2030 Graduate school, an interdisciplinary doctoral programme with a focus on sustainable development.
During their training, doctoral students carry out various artistic projects, often in collaboration with external actors. They also participate in seminars, festivals and conferences, and present their research both nationally and internationally. Doctoral positions are annonunced on Malmö Theatre Academy's website. Doctoral studies in artistic research are based on a four-year paid employment. The structure, forms and criteria are defined in the general syllabus.
The content of the compulsory studies and their learning outcomes are defined in the course syllabi.
