Pernilla August Appointed Honorary Doctor on May 31

Pernilla August has been appointed the new honorary doctor for 2024 at Lund University's Faculty of Fine and Performing Arts. The honorary title will be awarded to her during a ceremony taking place on Friday, May 31 in Lund.

On Friday, May 31, Pernilla August will participate in the ceremony in Lund to receive her honorary doctorate from Lund university. The doctoral promotion is the largest academic event of the faculties. 

Pernilla August is a prominent actress and director. Her long career makes her an endless source of inspiration for all members of the Faculty of Fine and Performing Arts. Especially for the students of Malmö Theatre Academy, the awarding of August's honorary title is significant. Already on Tuesday, May 28, Pernilla August met with the students at the Theatre Academy and shared her experiences in the industry.

About Pernilla August

Pernilla August has a long career behind her, both as an actress and director on stage, in TV, and in film. She joined Dramaten in the mid-80s and participated in several notable productions such as A Doll's House, The Winter's Tale, Mary Stuart, and Ghosts. August has appeared in a number of well-known film and TV productions, ranging from Fanny and Alexander in 1982, through Star Wars, to Events by the Water in 2023. She received the Guldbagge Award and the Best Actress award at Cannes for her role in The Best Intentions. As a director, her work includes the film adaptation of Beyond, for which she wrote the screenplay and was awarded the Guldbagge for Best Direction.
